Why I Read This Book
Immediately after finishing my last audiobook, 101 Essays that Will Change the Way You Think, I was on the search for my next one. My first time listening to an audiobook quickly made me fall in love with the experience.
Here's why:
I was growing tired of listening to my same old music on repeat all day long. Listening to an audiobook brought something fresh to listen to.
I was falling behind in my reading list and with the end of the year fast approaching, this was my way of quickly catching up to make up for lost time.
Listening to audiobooks on my drives and in between daily tasks made me feel so much more productive with my time. Suddenly, sitting in traffic wasn't so frustrating because every second I was in the car, I was expanding my mind.
This was a very convenient solution to consuming books I was hesitant about investing my time and money into. Audiobooks take up a lot less of both.
There was something about knowing exactly how much time was going into finishing the book, down to the second, that gave me a boost of motivation. It's like when I finished the book, I knew I just dedicated X amount of hours into improving myself.
I've been following along Tam's journey since the release of Buy Yourself the Damn Flowers, and I've been curious to read it for myself for a while now. I didn't think I would be getting to it anytime soon, because there were so many other self-help books on my reading list that I needed to get to.
After I finished listening to 101 Essays, I decided to search and see if an audiobook was even available with my Spotify membership. When I saw that it was, it was a no brainer that this would be my next listen.
I had spent the last few weeks catching up on Tam's podcast, Self-Obsessed, and I knew the content would be ending soon. Listening to her audiobook was my way of keeping Tam's voice consistently in my life just a little bit longer before I waited for her to release more content.
As soon as I finished season 3 of Self Obsessed, I pressed play on Buy Yourself the Damn Flowers.
Emotions Evoked from This Book
My favorite part about Tam's content is that listening to her feels like listening to a friend. She's my age, with my ambitions, with experiences similar to me and my peers. Although she provided a ton of valuable information on personal development, she packaged it in a way that felt relatable.
This is something that is at the nucleus of what I am trying to do at The Hustle Legacy, so I've often pulled on Tam for inspiration of who I want to be and how I want to show up for the world. In fact, it was people like her that made me realize what it is that I wanted to do with my life (which was to build the first Ecosystem of Self Discover, The Hustle Legacy).
Listening to Tam throughout this book made me feel so incredibly proud of her. She did it! She became a published author! I have watched her dream about this from my screen for what feels like years now.
Seeing Tam accomplish such an incredible feat made me feel like I could do it to. As I listened to her words and her stories, I imagined the stories I'd put into my own book. I'd think about all the content I've already written for the website, and how easy it would be to use it all to outline a book if I chose to.
The magical thing about Tam is that she inspires by example. You hear in her passion that she worked hard to become who she is today. Knowing how hard I'm working (as I'm sure you are too), it makes you imagine the day you'll look back at yourself now filled with gratitude for everything you've done.
Tam Kaur is just a girl in her twenties arguably even more obsessed with Self Discovery with me. She just happens to put a different spin on it, calling is Self Obsession. Her work reminded me of how important it is to put everything I've got into my own.
I'm so glad audiobooks introduced me to a way to consume more content like hers, without letting them sit for years on my reading list.
Why You Should Read It
This is an inspiring listen or read for any women looking to grow her confidence.
Tam's entire brand is built on emphasizing the importance of showing up for yourself more than anyone else ever will. She reframes the idea of conceitedness and guides you on your journey into falling in love with yourself.
Her book is filled with joy, gratitude, and passion for the human experience and shows you how to see your life from a brand new perspective.
I recommend this book to anyone in need of more positive energy. The greatest benefit I see this book offering is bringing you the mindset needed to rewire your brain. From applicable assignments in how to grow your confidence to in-depth explanations of why Self Discovery matters, this book opens your mind up to the possibility of an abundant future.
